Since so many people are working from home at least part of the time, it makes sense to try and keep things running smoothly and harmoniously. To that end, here are some Feng Shui Tips for your home office.

Youll need your compass for some of these tips. Placing items and rooms properly is one of the keys to proper Feng Shui.

If you are able to choose the location of your home office, the best place for it to be is in the North end of your home. The North Sector is often called the Career Sector. If that is unavailable, the Southwest corner is the Wealth Sector, the Northeast is the Skills and Talent Sector, and finally the South is the Fame and Recognition Sector. Do your best to locate your home office in one of those sectors, with the North being the most desirable, and the South being the least.

Some other general Feng Shui Tips for objects within your home office are:

1) Always sit so that there is a solid wall behind your back. This ensures you have support in your life. Never sit with your back to the window.

2) Always place the fax machine, telephone, computers, and cash registers in the southeast wealth sector to attract more prospective business.

3) Arrange your desk to have a clear view of the door, preferably facing the door. If it is impossible to arrange, hang a small mirror so that you can see the doors reflection.

4) Never put a shelf over your desk. The shelf symbolizes the burdens of the world coming down upon you.

5) Try and keep sharp items such as paper cutters, scissors, or the sharp corner of a machine away from your desk. Make sure they are not pointing at the desk. Keep as many sharp objects as possible hidden from view in a drawer or closet. The sharp edges symbolize the cutting of a knife which is a disapproving finger pointing at you.

6) Make sure that you can walk completely around your desk so that your workmates and workload do not cramp you.

7) Avoid clutter at all times and at all costs! Do not have an in or out tray on your desk. Keep only on your desk what is necessary for what you are doing at the moment.

8) Dont keep cactus plants in your office. The needles of the cactus plants are thought to create negative energy flow.

9) Never arrange your desk in such a way that if the door swings open it will open into your desk. This will cause you to be faced with unexpected situations. If the door jams against your desk, it can block your prosperity.

10) If there are two doors in your office, dont place your desk between them. The good Chi will pass right by you and out the other door.

As one final Feng Shui tip for your home office, a tabletop fountain made of bamboo or flat round stones is always good in the southeast corner to increase prosperity. Your office is your resource base. The energy patterns surrounding it have an important influence on your entire life and your financial well being.

Feng Shui uses placement and design to balance and enhance energy flow. 1.Avoid offices that are at the dead-end of a street / road. 2.Do not have two parallel sliding doors into the main office space. So, it is back to square one, in terms of number of employees on the rolls. 3.Do not sit in such a way that your back faces your boss. Either get a small wooden partition to block the view or change your seat position. Have round or oval shaped tables in the conference room. This will promote good understanding between the members in a board meeting. 4.Never let your subordinates working at a higher ground level than you or your boss sitting on a lower ground level than you. The ground level too should follow hierarchies for all practical purposes. 5.The marketing / sales department (which facilitates cash flow into the office) should have lots of open space to move around. There should be lots of light and breeze flowing in to the room. 6.Keep the entrance of your office free from any obstacle That is after a customer opens the door, he should not immediately confront a huge table (often the receptionist’s table) or a cubicle. 7.When you enter your office (or cubicle, the first thing you see should be an object that makes you happy. It could be a photo or plant – anything that makes you happy to be entering the space. 8.Position your desk as far from the door as possible. If your desk is too close to the door, it gives the impression that you are irresponsible and trying to sneak out of the office early! If your desk is against a wall, it blocks the flow of energy. Make sure that you sit facing the door or window. If this is not possible, hang a mirror above your computer or hang chimes over the door so you can see who’s coming into your office. If you can’t see a window from your desk, hang a picture of the outdoors or a plant directly in your line of vision. Don’t sit under a vent – the draft creates a bad feng shui. If you can’t move your desk, hang a scarf or flag under the vent to direct the draft away from you. 9.Have at least one object in your office that has got nothing to do with your work. A picture of your family, the cricket schedule or a favorite poster will remind you that you have a life outside the office and help create a sense of balance in your day.

Adopting these suggestions can help improve the environment but they can not guarantee success. You still have to work hard at your job!

UPDATED 7:27 p.m. Friday A Cape Breton musician, well-loved by fellow musicians, studentsand fans, was one of three people who died in a head-on collisionThursday night near Millville. Guitarist Dave McKeough, 46, and his wife Donna McKeough, 45, werekilled instantly when a car crossed the centre line and smashedinto theirs on Highway 105 at about 6:45 p.m. The other driver, William Dove, 52, of Sydney Mines, also died. The McKeoughs” 20-year-old daughter was the only survivor ofthe crash.

She was taken to hospital and treated for injuries thatwere not considered life-threatening. The McKeoughs are also survived by a 17-year-old daughter and an11-year-old son at home. The parents and eldest daughter were returning from Halifax wherethe daughter was applying for entry into the pre-med program atDalhousie University. McKeough was a master guitarist who, as one person noted Friday,played on just about every CD made in Cape Breton in the past 10years. He was well-known for his versatility, talent and keen knowledge ofmusic. c.

“Everybody loved him personally and he had a monumentaltalent, along with monumental generosity,” said JoellaFoulds, artistic director of the Celtic Colours InternationalFestival. “He was capable of playing any style of guitar and he couldplay live or on recording he was always in thestudio.” Foulds said McKeough was an essential part of the music scene inCape Breton. “In fact, he was a cornerstone,” she said. The list of musicians McKeough recorded with reads like awho”s who of the Cape Breton music scene JimmyRankin, Fred Lavery, Allie Bennett, Gordie Sampson, virtually everymusician on the island had a close association with the guitarist. “The music scene in Cape Breton is very close-knit, and Davewas in the recording studio constantly with any number ofmusicians,” Foulds said.

He also taught band at three local schools. “We”re all in shock here today,” said RedmondMacDougall, principal of MacLennan Junior High in Sydney. “There”s quite a lot of upset kids here, and of coursewe have grief counsellors in. “You”d see him having a jam session with the studentsat lunchtime. RCMP Cpl. Ron MacDonald said Friday it appears Dove, driving a 2001Mercury Grand Marquis, passed another vehicle on the right-handshoulder of Highway 105 and lost control. The Mercury crossed the centre line and smashed into theMcKeoughs” 2009 Dodge Charger. “In the past year, there have been seven people who died inthree collisions on that stretch of road, and for the life of me Ican”t understand why,” MacDonald said.

“It”s the straightest and flattest piece of highwaybetween here and the Canso Causeway.” MacDonald said he can find no common thread linking the fatalcrashes. “It”s just horrible,” he said. ( ).
